Akame 48 Waterfalls ― Water Sculptures Captured by a Large-Format Camera
Located in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, Akame Forty-Eight Waterfalls is renowned for its gorge beauty, selected among Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls. Fudō Falls, Senju Falls, and Nunobiki Falls are its most representative, each displaying distinct water flows and expressions. The meticulous detail achievable only with a large-format camera vividly records the texture of the rock surfaces, the transparency of the water, and even the colors of the surrounding moss and trees.
Senju Falls stands approximately 15 meters tall. Its name comes from the way the water cascades down the rock face, splitting into numerous streams like white threads, reminiscent of the hands of the Thousand-Armed Kannon. This waterfall is characterized by the elegant spread of its water.
Nunobiki Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls representing the Akame Forty-Eight Falls, with a drop of approximately 30 meters. The water splits into several streams as it cascades down the rocky steps, resembling draped fabric. The gentle expression of the water and its harmony with the surrounding greenery are the highlights.
Fudō Falls, located at the entrance to Akame 48 Waterfalls, is a straight drop waterfall with a height of approximately 15 meters. The powerful flow of water plunging straight down the steep rock face is a majestic presence that greets visitors first.
