The giant Christmas tree installed in the center of Pioneer Square is lit during the Tree Lighting Ceremony in early December. As dusk falls and the city’s bustle quiets, the lights gradually grow brighter, warming the hearts of visitors. Around it, you can see people enjoying hot chocolate and tourists taking commemorative photos.
Completed in 1875, the Pioneer Courthouse is one of the oldest federal courthouses in the American West. The surrounding trees are adorned with electric lights, creating a harmonious blend of the historic building and modern illumination. The contrast between the blue evening sky and the orange glow evokes the distinctive winter ambiance of Portland.
As night falls, Pioneer Square is enveloped in countless lights. Even the outlines of street trees and buildings are outlined in light, creating a scene that symbolizes the Christmas season. This square, known as a place of relaxation for citizens, transforms into a veritable theater of light come winter.
