Yoshinoyama in Nara is Japan’s premier cherry blossom destination, famously known as “Ichimoku Senbon” (A Thousand Trees at a Glance). Approximately 30,000 cherry trees spread from the valley to the ridges, blooming in stages—Shimo-senbon, Naka-senbon, Kami-senbon, and Oku-senbon—drenching the entire mountain in a blush of pink.
This collection of photographs captures the multi-layered beauty unique to Yoshinoyama: the ethereal distant views shrouded in spring haze, the harmony of cherry blossoms and fresh greenery covering the slopes, and the floral landscapes surrounding temples and villages. Petals translucent in the light convey ephemerality, while the overlapping waves of cherry blossoms speak of grandeur. It truly represents the primal landscape of Japanese spring, woven by the “cherry blossoms of a thousand years.”

A bird’s-eye view of the heart of Yoshino’s cherry blossom landscape, near Kamisenbon and Nakasenbon. Temples and streets enveloped in cherry blossoms emerge like a paradise.
Cherry blossoms blanket the mountains, overlapping like waves, dyeing everything from the tips of the branches to the distant landscape in their floral hue. This composition evokes the uniquely Yoshino experience of a mountain vista dyed cherry blossom pink as far as the eye can see.
A single frame capturing the landscape where Yoshino’s cherry blossoms spread from the valley floor to the mountaintop. Enveloped in spring haze, the flowers dissolve into the soft light, creating a scene straight out of a dream.
