Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom at Fugan Canal Kansui Park

Spring in Toyama: Perfect Cherry Blossom Season
I visited Fugan Canal Kansui Park in Toyama City to capture the spring cherry blossoms. The official bloom announcement had just been issued, so I headed there in the afternoon when the weather was supposed to clear up. As predicted, the sky gradually brightened, though some clouds remained throughout the day.
The park was bustling with visitors—locals and international tourists alike. Families, friend groups, and couples were scattered across the grounds enjoying the spring season. It was wonderful to see so many people gathering to appreciate the beauty of nature, though I have to admit the crowd was quite substantial.
Despite the sunshine, there was still a chill in the air. This time of year in late March to early April requires a long-sleeved shirt, even when the sun is out. The warmth of spring hasn’t fully arrived yet, so you need to dress smartly.

What makes Ensuiko park special during cherry blossom season is the sheer density of blooming trees. The sakura create an almost tunnel-like effect along both sides of the canal. In the first photo, you can see the vibrant orange architectural structure framed by the full canopy of pink and white blossoms—a striking contrast that’s unique to this location.
The second image shows the wooden deck area, one of the most popular photography spots in the park. Many visitors were here taking commemorative photos, with the distinctive clock tower bridge visible in the background.

The third photo captures the spacious lawn area surrounded by cherry trees in full bloom. It’s impressive to see so many people sitting peacefully on the grass, enjoying the beauty and warmth of spring. The wide-angle view really showcases the abundance of blossoms and the generous green space.
All three photos were shot using an iPhone SE. Modern smartphone cameras have really come a long way in capturing landscape photography like this. The afternoon light and clear blue sky have been rendered beautifully with natural color accuracy.
If you’re planning a visit to Toyama during spring, Fugan Canal Kansui Park is absolutely worth your time. Year after year, this location draws crowds for good reason—the cherry blossoms here are truly spectacular.
